I've been trying to set up a Scan to Network folder for hours. Nothing works!

I've followed the instructions and video tutorials. I keep getting this error when testing. "error your printer cannot connect the server. press edit to correct server"

Hi @Kbbb2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Setting up a Scan to Network Folder can be tricky, but let's troubleshoot the "error your printer cannot connect to the server" issue step-by-step:

1. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as your computer. Print a network configuration page from the printer to verify its IP address.

2. Verify Folder Path

  • Ensure the network folder path is correct. It should follow this format:
    • \\ComputerName\FolderName (for a shared folder on a Windows PC)
    • Make sure there are no typos or extra spaces in the path.

3. Folder Sharing Settings

  • Confirm that the folder you want to scan to is shared properly:
    1. Right-click on the folder and select Properties.
    2. Go to the Sharing tab and click on Share.
    3. Ensure that permissions allow the printer to access the folder (consider adding "Everyone" with Read/Write permissions for testing).

4. Check Network Credentials

  • Make sure you are entering the correct username and password for the network folder. This should be a user account that has access to the shared folder.

5. Firewall and Security Settings

  • Sometimes, firewalls or security software can block the connection:
    • Temporarily disable your firewall or security software to see if it resolves the issue.
    • Ensure that file and printer sharing is enabled in your network settings.

6. Use the Printer’s IP Address

  • Instead of using the computer name in the folder path, try using the printer’s IP address:
    • Format: \\192.168.x.x\FolderName.

7. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the manufacturer’s website. An update might fix connectivity issues.

8. Reconfigure the Network Folder on the Printer

  • Go back to the printer's settings, delete the existing network folder configuration, and set it up again carefully, ensuring all details are correct.

9. Restart Devices

  • Restart both the printer and your computer. This can sometimes clear out connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
