I hadn't used my printer in a couple months, just replaced the ink cartridges and it won't print wirelessly. Let me explain further. I can get it to print a test page from the app, but not from the setting inside the device manager. Also, I am not able to print any documents from my computer but can from my phone. I even read a similar posting from someone else that was suggested to use HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose the issue. I ran it and all was setup properly, but it wasn't able to print (see image below).

Please help me fix this. I need to print and am not able to with my newer printer. And, I just replaced the ink cartridges that were expensive.

Thanks.

Kurt

@kurtposer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

As you are able to print from your phone, it means the printer is working fine. Let us try these steps:

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks so much for attempting to solve my issue, but it still exists.

I can print test reports from the HP Smart App, but am unable to print a test page from Windows 2010 printer settings. I am hoping this will give you another clue to help me solve my printing problem.

Also, it used to print from the computer when I first got it. It only started not printing over the last couple months. Nothing I can think of was changed on the computer. I did change the printer cartridges, but used genuine HP cartridges so that shouldn't be the cause.

Thanks.

Let us install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Let me know how it goes.

This is what I did but removed and followed the steps you outlined again and experienced the same results. I can print test pages through the HP Smart application, but not through the W10 settings or directly. I don't know what the next step would be to try. I really appreciate your attempts to help. Please keep them coming.

It appears to communicate fine between HP Smart on my computer and the printer, but loses the connection when printing through other methods from the computer.

I look forward to your next steps.

Another observation is that the print test page seems to go through the print queue fast. It shows up quickly and disappears almost as fast, but does not print the document. This printer is the default printer too. I am at a loss for what to try next.

Can you please help me figure this out?

Thanks.

just had Eman at HP correct this. He said the HP driver I was using was incomplete and started loading the complete driver. I then noticed how large it was and said I didn't want all the bloat that makes the software so huge. So, he had a simple solution. He used HP Smart to install the minimal software needed to operate the printer. It worked perfectly. I let Eman take over my computer to accomplish this, but feel I could do the same with this knowledge now.

I had suggested using the HP Smart app in my first post. Glad to know that the issue is now resolved. Feel free to contact us with any concerns related to HP products.

Happy to help!

My mistake then. I remember reading this and didn't know that it was more than what I had used, a method of printing test pages.

I am glad it worked out though.

Thanks again.
