HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Regularly connected with my Netgear router.  Switched to an Orbi 960 and used the same SSID and password as the original router.  Everything in my home connected to the new Orbi seamlessly except for two OfficeJet 8610 printers.  Won't connect on the regular band, though I can connect on the guest band.  Can't use the guest band, though, because it's not the same network as my laptop.  How can I connect wirelessly to thie network?

Hi @beardocnj ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues with printers can be a bit complex, but let's try a few steps to see if we can resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Printer Placement:

  • Ensure that the printer is within range of your new Orbi 960 router.

Network Settings on Printer:

  • Access the printer's control panel or web interface.
  • Navigate to the wireless settings and check if the SSID and password match those of your Orbi network.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can help refresh the printer's network connection.

Forget Network on Printer:

  • On the printer's control panel, find the network settings or wireless setup.
  • Look for the option to forget or delete the current wireless network settings.
  • Re-enter the network information for your Orbi network.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. If so, update the firmware.
  • Firmware updates can often include improvements to network connectivity.

Check Orbi Settings:

  • Log in to your Orbi router's web interface and check the wireless settings.
  • Ensure that the wireless channel is not set to Auto. Try setting it to a specific channel, preferably one with less interference.

Separate Bands:

  • If your Orbi network has separate bands for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, try connecting the printer to each band separately.
  • Ensure that the printer supports the band you are trying to connect to.

Static IP Address:

  • Consider assigning a static IP address to the printer. This can be done through the router's DHCP settings.
  • Once assigned, enter the static IP on the printer manually.

Firewall/Antivirus Software:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer and try connecting the printer.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

  • If your router and printer support WPS, try using it for the connection. Follow the instructions in your printer's manual.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
