Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

IP address  shows as not applicable. 6500A E710 is almost  14 years old and has been working fine until yesterday when it lost the connection to my router. It will not reconnect. Have tried just about everything, including turning off everything, including router then turning just router and printer. Keep getting same message of no applicable IP address.

Hi @Mike-KC0928,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One Printer is showing an IP address as "not applicable," it might be having trouble obtaining an IP address from your router. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Network Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to the network settings or wireless settings menu.
  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the correct wireless network. If it’s not, reconnect it to your WiFi network.

Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Sometimes, setting a static IP address can help. To do this:
    • Access the printer’s network settings menu from the control panel.
    • Choose the option to set up a static IP address.
    • Enter a valid IP address that is within the range of your router's IP address pool (e.g., 192.168.1.x where x is a number between 2 and 254, but not already in use by another device).
    • Enter the subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0) and the default gateway (your router's IP address).

Check Router Settings:

  • Log into your router’s admin interface (usually accessible via a web browser by entering the router's IP address, like 192.168.1.1).
  • Check if there are any restrictions or settings that might be preventing the printer from connecting.
  • Ensure the router is set to assign IP addresses automatically (DHCP is enabled).

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • You can try resetting the network settings on your printer to the factory defaults:
    • On the printer, go to the network setup or wireless settings menu.
    • Look for an option to restore network defaults or reset network settings.
    • After resetting, try reconnecting to the WiFi network.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If you can connect the printer to a computer using a USB cable, you might be able to update its firmware through the HP Support website.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or interference between the printer and the router that could affect the wireless signal.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
