Hi @ftp4

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 keeps going offline, it can be frustrating, but there are a few common reasons for this issue and several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve it. Here's a list of potential fixes:

1. Check Printer Connections

  • Wi-Fi Connection: If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, check if it’s still connected to your Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, the printer might lose its connection and go offline.
    • Print Network Configuration Page: On the printer's control panel, go to Wireless > Settings > Print Network Configuration Page. This will print out the network details, and you can verify if the printer is still connected to the correct network.
    • If it’s disconnected, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network either through the printer's Wireless Setup Wizard or by entering your network details again.
  • USB or Ethernet Connection: If you’re using a USB or Ethernet connection, check the cables and connections. Try plugging them into different ports to see if the issue resolves.

2. Restart Printer and Router

  • Restart Printer: Power off the printer for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Sometimes, simply restarting the printer can help it reconnect.
  • Restart Router: Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. This will refresh the network connection and might help the printer stay connected.

3. Check Printer’s IP Address

  • Sometimes, the printer’s IP address might change (especially if you have a dynamic IP configuration). If your computer tries to connect to the old IP address, it will show the printer as offline.
    • Check Printer’s IP Address: Go to the printer’s Network Configuration Page as mentioned earlier, and note the IP address.
    • Update the Printer’s IP on Your Computer: Go to your computer's Printers & Scanners settings, remove the current printer, and add it again using the new IP address.

4. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • If the drivers on your computer are outdated or corrupted, it may cause the printer to appear offline. Reinstalling or updating the drivers might fix the issue.
    • Uninstall Printer Drivers: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and select Remove device. Then, uninstall any related HP software.
    • Install Latest Drivers: Download and install the latest drivers from the official HP Support website.

5. Set Printer to Default Printer

  • Sometimes, the printer can appear offline if it’s not set as the default printer on your computer.
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and select Set as Default Printer.

6. Disable "Use Printer Offline" Setting

  • If the printer is marked as "Use Printer Offline" in Windows, it can cause it to appear offline.
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and choose See what's printing.
    • Click on Printer in the top menu and ensure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

7. Update Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
