Same issue, this is clearly a problem with the firmware and with years of complaints HP still hasn't fixed it.
I tried cold resetting the printer i.e. restoring to factory settings and restarting, but a new even worse problem has emerged: upon starting up the following message appears: "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink," and the only button is "Hide." The next screen is about aligning the printhead, have to hit "Continue," and then the screen stays stuck on "Printing the alignment page..." FOREVER because the cartridges apparently can't be used.
Aside from the completely unethical and unauthorized blackmail of users by forcing me to enroll in Instant Ink when HP's own FAQs say that is absolutely not required, how on earth am I supposed to show the printer if I were to enroll?
This is, by the way, the fourth or fifth super annoying serious flaw that's cropped up while trying to use what should be a SUPER simple device. I seriously don't understand how HP launches such garbage products and still maintains such a monopoly. This printer cost several hundred dollars, should have just lit them on fire, would have been faster and less frustrating.
