LaserJet P1102w
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I cannot make a wireless connection between my P1102w and my current Macintosh.   A decade ago I had such a connection, just because it seemed the thing to do.  After a year or so I went back to a wired connection, because the two machines sit within the reach of a short USB cable.   Back then I did not have any sort of network.  I don't remember how I did it back then.  Peer to peer, maybe?

Anyway, now I have the latest Mac Mini.  As you may know, it does not have enough ports.   If I can reestablish a wireless connection between the P1102w and the Mac, I can unplug the printer from the Mac and free up the USB port for a different peripheral.

The simplest such connection might be what I had ten years ago, if I could remember what it was.  Now the two machines sit within inches of each other.   I am wondering if there is some way to create a wireless connection over that very short space.

I have also tried a network connection.  In my present location I have access to an office-wide wireless network.   I have tried connecting through that network by following the instruction at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02847467.  I get this far:

When I complete Step 11, I click the Return key, and Safari reports that it has dropped the connection.  Safari goes on to recommend waiting a few minutes and trying again.  I have tried often enough that I doubt that Safari will ever keep the connection.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong at Step 11?   Or can I create some direct wireless connection that goes straight from the Mac to the P1102w?

TIA

For further information, here is what Safari reports when I click the Apply button in Step 11:

I am not sure what I did different, but I followed the instructions again, and this time it worked.   I have no idea why the process succeeded this time, but now I do not have to buy a USB dock.
