We found this set of instructions very helpful from an end user perspective. Not all of our Mac end users were familiar with the process so I hope sharing this helps.
https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/10/27/how-to-remove-hp-printer-driver-malware-from-mac
- Go to System Preferences
- Click on Printers & Scanners
- Choose your HP printer from the Printers list on the left
- Click the minus sign at bottom left
- In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Printers/hp
- Drag the printer driver to the trash
- Go back to System Preferences
- Click on Printers & Scanners if it doesn't open at that
- Click the plus sign at bottom left and re-add the printer
To go the ~/Library/Printers/hp folder, go to the Finder and choose Go, Go to folder... from the menus. Or press Command-Shift-G.

I followed your advise and uninstall the printer with HP easy start and re-installed again and it's working again!!! I've lost so much time with hp support (chat and phone) for nothing! HAHAHA
THANKS JanetB58!!!

I suggest deleting the entire HP folder from the ~/Library/Printers folder. Then download and install the Apple printer drivers via https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US
Regarding the matterhornframework error, I found this article with more information:
They are suggesting using Easy Start
Step 1:
Delete the HP printer from System Preferences/Printers and Scanners
Step 2:
Download HP Easy Setup: https://123.hp.com/us/en/devices/setup
Open it, but don’t run it (you should see the HP logo and “welcome to HP Easy Start”.
Go to the top left, click on “HP Easy Start” menu (next to the apple menu), and select “Uninstall HP Software”
Uninstall it all!
Restart
(Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZNvRqQUMzE )
Step 2:
Copy and paste this into the URL in your browser: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-esse...
(it might work if you just click on it)
Run the HP Essentials program.. it does take a while, (don’t worry if it looks like it isn’t doing anything for a while)
Restart
Step 3:
Use the HP Easy Setup you downloaded in step 1 to reinstall your printer

I received some great support from other users, which I've pasted below. The first one from "am3b" worked, but if not try the second, longer one from "xavpctech01". (Too bad you can't print it out to follow the script.)
There are other good suggestions on the support group, that have come up since I first had the problem. They all involve deleteing and re-adding your printer. It ended up being easier than I anticipated.
Good luck!!
