Hi @lou97404,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing issues with your HP DeskJet Pro 8725 printer going offline and shutting down spontaneously can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Check Power Connection: Ensure that the printer is securely plugged into a working power outlet. Loose power connections or power fluctuations can cause the printer to go offline or shut down unexpectedly. Try plugging the printer into a different outlet or using a surge protector to stabilize the power supply.
Restart Printer: Perform a simple restart of the printer by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, and waiting for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again. This can help clear temporary glitches or errors that may be causing the offline status or spontaneous shutdowns.
Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. HP periodically releases firmware updates to address issues and improve performance. Check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel menu or by visiting the HP support website.
Check Network Connection: Verify that the printer is connected to the network properly. Check the Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection settings on the printer's control panel to ensure that it is connected to the correct network. If using a wireless connection, try moving the printer closer to the router to improve signal strength.
Restart Router: If the printer is connected to a wireless network, try restarting your router to refresh the network connection. Unplug the router from the power source, wait for a minute or two, and then plug it back in. Allow the router to restart fully before attempting to reconnect the printer.
Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause communication issues with the printer, leading to offline status or shutdowns. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
Check for Overheating: Make sure that the printer is placed in a well-ventilated area and that the vents are not blocked. Overheating can cause the printer to shut down spontaneously as a safety measure. Avoid placing the printer near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
