Hi @ENGLAND2024 ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the frustration you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your desktop computer. Check the USB or network cable connections, and make sure they are secure.
- If you are using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your desktop computer.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the issue persists.
Restart Your Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple computer restart can resolve communication issues. Restart your desktop computer and try printing again.
Check Printer Status:
- On your computer, go to the "Devices and Printers" or "Printers & Scanners" section, depending on your operating system.
- Right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and make sure it is set as the default printer.
- Ensure that the printer status is not showing any error messages.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause communication issues. Visit the HP website, search for your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your operating system. Install the updated drivers.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Ensure that there are no conflicting software or applications that might interfere with the printing process. Disable any firewall or antivirus temporarily to check if they are causing the issue.
Printer Queue:
- Open the print queue on your computer to check if there are any pending print jobs. Clear the print queue and try printing a new document.
Reset Printing System (For Mac Users):
- If you are using a Mac, you can try resetting the printing system. Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," right-click on the printer, and choose "Reset printing system." Re-add the printer and try printing again.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. If so, follow the instructions to update the firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
