I have an old HP 3830 inkjet printer that I use for occasional color printing. I just changed internet providers and tried to use the wizard on the printer to switch to it. I have to enter my password, which contains two hypens. Try as I might, I cannot find a hyphen anywhere.
Is there another way to set up without using that incredibly stupid panel?

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like the HP 3830 printer's wizard interface can be a bit tricky when it comes to entering special characters like hyphens.
Here's a workaround:
Access the "123?" Key:
- On the printer's keypad, look for the "123?" button. Pressing this should bring up additional symbols, including the hyphen.
Alternative Setup Method via HP Smart App:
- If the wizard doesn't work, you can use the HP Smart app to set up your printer.
Let us try to restore the printer to the default network settings, and then use the HP Smart App from your mobile device to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Step 1:
Restore network default settings on the printer; to do that, From the Wireless or Setup menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
Step 2:
Uninstall and re-install the HP Smart app on your mobile device.
Place the printer and the mobile device near the Wi-Fi router.
Turn on Wi-Fi on your mobile device and connect to your network.
Enable Bluetooth on the mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
After installing HP Smart for iOS and Android, enable the mobile device location service and allow the app to use your location to detect the printer and offer solutions during setup.
In HP Smart, click Add Printer or the plus sign to search for the printer, and then follow the instructions to complete the setup.
If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
