Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I own a HP Photosmart 7520. More and more devices ask me to switch over to WPA2/WPA3 (with PMF) on my router. If I switch to this protocol on my router the printer would not connect anymore. If the protocol is simply WPA2 the connection works.

In the interest of security, does anyone know when and if the Photosmart 7520 will receive an update to support WPA2/WPA3 with PMF?

I found a thread about this issue in the community board but it is closed. This is why I am starting this new discussion thread.

Hi, the printer supports WPA2 with PMF, it doesn’t support WPA3 encryption.

With a temporary USB or Ethernet connection update the printer firmware and then it should connect with WPA2 with PMF enabled:

You may download the latest firmware update utility for your printer below:

I downloaded the FW update an ran the .exe . It says that it is not applicable so I guess it has the latest firmware already. Yet when I set the printer to WPA3/WPA2 it doesn't connect.

Am I wrong to assume that WPA3/WPA2 is a protocol that supports both protocols and is setting the router (ASUS AX88U) in a weird WPA3 state that only mimics certain WPA2 parts that the printer doesn't like?
