Hi @ruffeagle

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation. If the WPS PIN method isn’t working, there’s no need to worry — there are more reliable ways to connect your HP printer to Wi-Fi. Let’s walk through a clean setup that avoids the PIN entirely.

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears any previous connection attempts:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • If your printer doesn’t have a touchscreen, follow the steps in this guide to restore Wi-Fi setup mode using the buttons.

2. Enable Wi-Fi Setup Mode

To make the printer discoverable:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button until the blue light starts blinking.
  • This activates Wi-Fi setup mode and prepares the printer for pairing.

3. Use the HP Smart App for Setup

This method bypasses the PIN and works on most networks:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your desktop or mobile device.
  • Open the app and click Add Printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.
  • Make sure you enter the correct Wi-Fi password when prompted.

4. Check Network Compatibility

  • Ensure your printer and desktop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • If your router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz band — it’s more widely supported.

5. Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can block wireless setup:
