So I have been using my iPad 17.6.1 to send printing commands for a while. It was fine before being moved to my new location, then after starting to use this method again yesterday, I found out that first, every commands from the iPad sent to it will always stuck in printing order, waiting. Second, the print review on my Pages app (ver14.1) shows location of subject not matching what I put in (for example, if I put the image at the top page, turn off header, footer, body it will still leave space at tope and bot thus making it closer to middle), I think it’s because of “legal” paper size that I couldn’t change. Third, the printer somehow took commands from my phone but not my iPad, although it also got that annoying space at top and bottom on the printout; plus, there’s a cleaning step added after.
Everything passes when I ran wireless test, our internet is always strong and printer is in ready mode. I will appreciate any piece of advice to fix this, I just bought this in 2022, I can’t buy a new printer.

Hi @Tiffany2902 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're dealing with a few different issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw. Let's break down each problem and see how we can address them:
1. Print Commands Stuck in Print Order
If print jobs are stuck in the queue, this can be caused by a few things:
- Check Printer Status: Ensure the printer is not in an error state or paused. You can check this on the printer’s display panel or through the printer’s web interface.
- Restart Devices: Try restarting your iPad, printer, and router. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
- Clear Print Queue: On your iPad, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear any cached network information that might be causing issues.
- Update Apps and Firmware: Ensure that both the printer firmware and the Pages app are up-to-date. Sometimes bugs are fixed in newer versions. Update the firmware on an HP printer
2. Print Layout Issues
The print layout issue could be related to settings in the Pages app or the printer driver:
- Check Pages App Settings: Ensure that the page size settings in Pages match the paper size loaded in the printer. Sometimes, incorrect settings can lead to extra margins.
- Printer Settings: Make sure the printer is set to the correct paper size. You might need to adjust settings either on the printer’s control panel or through its web interface.
3. Printer Taking Commands from Phone but Not iPad
If the printer is working with one device but not the other:
- Check Connection: Ensure that your iPad is connected to the same network as your printer. Sometimes network configurations can affect connectivity.
- Reconfigure Printer on iPad: On your iPad, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and forget the network. Then reconnect to the network and try printing again.
- Reinstall Printer: Remove the printer from your iPad’s list of printers and add it again. Go to the Pages app, select print, and choose “Select Printer” to re-add the printer.
- Run a Wireless Test: Since you mentioned that wireless tests pass, ensure that the test is recent and accurate.
- Printer Cleaning: If the printer performs a cleaning step, it might be due to a print quality issue. Check if there are any settings related to cleaning or maintenance on the printer’s control panel.
- Paper Size Settings: If the paper size cannot be changed, ensure that the paper size settings in your iPad and printer are synchronized.
