Hi @kellyhatfield24

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The "Print Spooler not starting automatically" issue can cause your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283cdw to be reported as offline.

Here’s a guide on how to resolve this problem:

Restart the Print Spooler Service:

  • In Windows, search for and open Services.
  • Scroll down and locate Print Spooler.
  • Right-click on Print Spooler and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab, ensure Startup type is set to Automatic.
  • If the service is not already running, click Start under Service status, then click OK.

Verify Printer Connection:

  • Confirm that your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Check the network status on the printer's control panel and verify the network name.

Check Printer Network Settings:

  • Print a network configuration report from the printer and ensure the Status under 802.11 Wireless is Connected.
  • If not, reconnect your printer to the network as per your printer model’s network settings restoration procedure.

Remove and Re-add the Printer:

  • In Windows, search for and select Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Remove.
  • Click on Add a printer or scanner option and follow prompt steps to re-add your printer.

Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings:

  • Determine if your firewall or antivirus program is preventing communication with the printer and allow necessary permissions.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer, navigate to Network Setup and select Restore Network Settings.
  • Re-enter your network credentials to reconnect the printer.

Restart Your Devices:

  • Turn off your computer and the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the printer, wait for a few seconds, and reconnect it to power.
  • Turn your devices back on and try printing again.

If the spooler still fails to start automatically after these steps, there may be a deeper system-level conflict. Let me know if you'd like help running a system file check or reinstalling the printer completely.
