Can someone help me when printer is asking for password. Give it a password says it accepts it. Then says checking for updates. Oh it wants a password no matter how many times it says password accepted & swirls around to end up saying needs password. So I can’t print from my phone

Hi @marionk1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2800e printer is getting stuck in a loop where it keeps asking for a password, even after you've entered it and it appears to be accepted. This could be related to the printer's network setup or firmware. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Check Printer Network Settings
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Network or Wireless Settings menu.
- Look for an option to reset or reconfigure network settings. This will allow you to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. This option might be under Wireless Setup or Network Setup.
- Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. Ensure you enter the correct network password when prompted.
2. Update Printer Firmware
- Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model (DeskJet 2800e) to check for the latest firmware updates.
- Download the latest firmware and follow the instructions to install it. Updating the firmware can resolve many issues, including network and connectivity problems.
3. Reconfigure HP Smart App
- On your smartphone, open the HP Smart app. Ensure you have the latest version installed.
- Remove the DeskJet 2800e from the HP Smart app by selecting it and choosing Remove or Forget. Then, re-add the printer by following the prompts to set it up again.
- When re-adding the printer, ensure you correctly enter your Wi-Fi network password.
4. Use the Printer’s Control Panel
- Use the printer’s control panel to navigate to the Setup or Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Use the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect to your Wi-Fi network again. This process often involves entering the network password.
5. Restart Printer and Router
- Turn off the printer, wait about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.:
- Unplug your router, wait about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. This can help resolve network connectivity issues.
6. Check Wireless Settings on Your Phone
- Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network that you are trying to connect the printer to.
- On your phone, forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
7. Perform a Factory Reset (if needed)
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This option is usually found in the Setup or Maintenance menu on the printer’s control panel. Be aware that this will remove all settings and you’ll need to set up the printer again from scratch.
- After resetting, reconfigure the printer’s network settings and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
