HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

This is regarding the new HP 9125e that I just bought. I have newer (1 year old) Windows 11 desktop with 32 gigs of ram. It's connected to my home ethernet wiring via a wall outlet. The printer is connected to a wireless AP in the next room that has it's own network name. Both the AP wiring and the ethernet wiring meet at the  gigabit switch in my tv/internet closet cabinet. That switch is fed by my Xfinity router.

When attempting to print a Word document I go to the screen where it shows me the printer that I can pick. The 9125e is my only printer and it is set to default. It tells me that the printer is not connected/ready. I push the print button anyway and about 15 seconds later, it prints. Go back to the dialog box and now it tells me the printer is ready.

Not sure what's going on. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @KHAir11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue where your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e printer initially shows as not connected/ready but prints after a delay and then shows as ready could be due to several factors, including network configuration, printer settings, or connectivity issues. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Network Configuration

Ensure that all network devices are correctly configured and connected.

Verify Connections:

  • Make sure the Ethernet cables connecting your printer, wireless AP, gigabit switch, and Xfinity router are securely connected.

Network Segmentation:

  • Ensure that both the wireless AP and the wired Ethernet network are on the same subnet. Different subnets can cause connectivity issues.

2. Printer Network Settings

Check the printer’s network settings to ensure it is properly connected to the network.

Print Network Configuration Page:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Network or Wireless settings.
  • Print a network configuration page to verify the printer's IP address and network status.

Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to the printer to ensure it always has the same IP on your network.
  • Access the printer’s network settings via the control panel or the printer’s embedded web server (by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser).

3. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Ensure the printer’s firmware and drivers are up-to-date.

Firmware Update:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions to download and install any available updates.

Driver Update:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @KHAir11,

Please find the next steps below.

4. Adjust Printer Settings

Make sure the printer settings are optimized for network connectivity.

Sleep Mode Settings:

  • Check if the printer has a sleep or power-saving mode that might be affecting its readiness.
  • Adjust the settings to ensure the printer remains active or has a quicker wake-up time.

Network Timeout Settings:

  • Some printers have network timeout settings that can cause them to appear offline temporarily.
  • Adjust these settings via the printer’s control panel or embedded web server.

5. Restart Network Devices

Restarting your network devices can help resolve connectivity issues.

  1. Restart Sequence:
    • Turn off the printer, wireless AP, gigabit switch, and Xfinity router.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Turn on the devices in the following order: Xfinity router, gigabit switch, wireless AP, and then the printer.

6. Check Printer Status on Computer

Ensure the printer status is correctly detected by your computer.

Remove and Re-add Printer:

  • Go to Printers & Scanners in your computer’s settings.
  • Remove the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e and then add it back to ensure the computer correctly detects the printer.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Check if there are any stuck print jobs in the print queue and clear them.

7. HP Print and Scan Doctor

Use HP's diagnostic tool to help identify and fix issues.

  1. Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
    • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the connectivity issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e printer.

If the issue persists, contacting HP Support may be necessary for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
