Hi @Max956,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you’ve forgotten the password for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw printer and need to reset it to regain access, you can follow these steps:
1. Perform a Factory Reset:
Turn on the Printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
Access the Menu: On the printer’s control panel, tap the Setup icon (usually looks like a gear or wrench).
Navigate to Reset Options:
- Tap Printer Maintenance or Service.
- Select Restore or Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset by following the on-screen instructions.
Wait for the Reset: The printer will restart and restore its default settings.
2. Reconfigure WiFi Settings:
Reconnect to WiFi: After the reset, reconnect the printer to your WiFi network. Go to the Wireless settings on the control panel and select your WiFi network. Enter the network password to reconnect.
Reconfigure Settings: You may need to set up other settings like your printer's network address and any preferences you had before.
3. Reinstall Printer Software:
Download the Latest Software: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your model.
Install and Configure: Follow the installation instructions, and the software will guide you through connecting your printer to your network and computer.
4. Access Printer Using HP Smart App:
Install HP Smart App: Download and install the HP Smart app from the App Store on your iOS device.
Add Printer: Open the HP Smart app, and follow the prompts to add your printer. It should detect your printer on the network if it’s properly connected.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Gaya1239,
I can access setup via the gear icon, from this point any of the options I select request a password to access. Service=password; Network setup =password; System setup =password; I can’t get to a next step!
