My printer HP Envy 4500 is not connecting to my Xfinity upgraded router Gateway XB8. Internet connection is not the problem. I think it's the printer. What do I have to do to get the printer to connect?

Hi @Ff1159

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Envy 4500 is struggling to connect to your Xfinity Gateway XB8, even though your internet is working fine. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printer, router, and computer.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then turn them back on.
  • Try reconnecting the printer to Wi-Fi.

2. Check Wi-Fi Band Compatibility

  • The Xfinity Gateway XB8 defaults to WPA3-Personal security, but HP printers typically use WPA2.
  • Open the Xfinity app, go to Connect > Your Network > View or Edit WiFi Settings.
  • Change Security Mode to WPA2 and save the settings.

3. Separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Bands

  • Some devices struggle with combined SSIDs.
  • If you’re not using Xfinity xFi Pods, try separating the bands:
    • Open the Xfinity app and go to WiFi settings.
    • Assign different names to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
    • Connect your printer to the 2.4GHz network.

4. Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Wireless Settings.
  • Select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard and choose your 2.4GHz network.
  • Enter the Wi-Fi password and confirm the connection.

5. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
  • The printer will reset its network settings.
  • Try reconnecting it to Wi-Fi.

6. Check HP’s Official Troubleshooting Guide

HP provides detailed steps for Wi-Fi connection issues. You can find them here.
