Hi @BuddyV,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e shows it's connected to the internet but fails to print and gives a "non-internet connection" message, it’s likely a communication issue between your device and the printer, not the printer’s internet connection itself.

Here’s how to fix it step by step:

1. Restart Everything

  • Turn off your printercomputer, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then turn them back on in this order: router → printer → computer.

2. Check Printer Connection

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  • Confirm it’s connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (same as your computer or phone).
  • Print a Network Configuration Page to verify the IP address and connection status.

3. Re-add the Printer in HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  • Remove the printer (if already added).
  • Click Add Printer and follow the prompts to reconnect it.

4. Set Printer as Default

  • On Windows: Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer → Set as default.

5. Check for Firewall or VPN Conflicts

  • Disable any VPN or firewall software temporarily and try printing again.
  • Some security software blocks local network printing.

6. Use IP Address to Add Printer (Advanced)

  • Find the printer’s IP address (from the control panel or network config page).
  • On your PC:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer.
    • Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address.
    • Enter the IP address manually.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
