What a piece of junk. There is no frustration like an HP Printer. My 6430 falls off the network constantly. You can power off and back on again and within 10 minutes it's offline again. This is for any device - iMac, MacBook and Windows 10/11 PCs, iPhone, iPad and Galaxy mobile devices. It's clearly the printer that is at fault, not this myriad of different devices and OSes.

I have a mesh wi-fi system with excellent coverage and a router in the same room as the printer. It has a strong wi-fi signal. I've tried locking to 2.4GHz or 5GHz; I've tried running at both (which is what it should be to support any device). I've tried DHCP assigned and static IP addresses. And I've tried every other idea from multiple threads and guides on here including firmware.

I think the bottom line is the printer isn't fit for purpose. The HP Smart software isn't much better. On first install on my iMac it gave a Continue button in blue - but clicking it did nothing other than make the image move to give the appearance of a click. Shut down and restart and this time I got a couple of totally different panels, that eventually said it was connecting to my printer, before a spinning wheel off death for about 5 mins after which it then said my printer was offline. So much for troubleshooting - I asked the app for support and it just took me to HP's almost useless website.

Oh, and yeah thanks HP for Smart ink. What a complete con that is: pay £7 a month for ink, that you barely ever use because the printer is too much of a PITA!

Hi @WontEverBuyPH,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a connectivity issue with your HP ENVY Pro 6430 All-in-One Printer. I apologize for the inconvenience and I would like to help you get this issue resolved.

If you have a Windows PC then please try the below steps and the issue should be resolved.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Set a manual IP-

To set a manual IP and try the steps below -

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply

--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply

--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.

--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min

Connect the printer to TCP/IP port

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

a. Click Start/Devices and Printers.  Right-click on your HP Printer.  Select Printer Properties.  Select the Ports tab at the top.

b.    Select Add Port.  Select Standard TCP/IP Port.  Select New Port.

c.    Follow the Add Port Wizard.  Under Printer Name or IP Address, .  Example:  192.168.1.15.  The IP address will be copied under Port Name.

d.    Select Next and Finish the Wizard.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
