Hi,
Please help. I have an HP Laserjet 3301 cdw something or other. It is forever going offline. I've been in touch with HP and it worked for a while but has now started going offline several times a day. I have just run the diagnostics tool on the HP Smart app which really isn't all that smart. It told me it had fixed the problem, and then as soon as I tried to print the test page, my printer told me it's offline.
It is set up on a network and connected to network by cable. This should not be happening.
Can someone please help? This is ridiculous.

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue where your HP LaserJet 3301 CDW printer keeps going offline despite being connected to the network via cable. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:
1. Check the Network Connection
- Verify the Ethernet cable: Make sure the Ethernet cable connecting your printer to the network is securely plugged into both the printer and the router. If possible, try swapping out the cable to see if it's causing the issue.
- Check the router: Ensure that the router is functioning correctly and that it is providing a stable connection to all devices, including your printer.
2. Restart the Printer and Network Devices
- Restart your printer: Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart your router: Sometimes network connectivity issues arise from the router. Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and plug it back in. This can help refresh the connection and resolve intermittent issues.
3. Set a Static IP Address
- Sometimes, printers with dynamic IP addresses can lose connection, especially when the router assigns them a new IP.
- Assign a static IP address to your printer:
- Access the printer’s control panel: Go to the printer’s Settings or Network Setup menu.
- Assign a static IP: In the network settings, set a static IP address for the printer that’s outside the dynamic range of your router (you can usually find the dynamic range in your router’s settings).
- Alternatively, you can log into your router and reserve the printer's current IP (if it’s using DHCP), which ensures the same IP is always assigned to the printer.
4. Update the Printer's Firmware
- Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
- Go to the HP website and search for your printer model (HP LaserJet 3301 CDW). If there's an updated firmware version, download and install it. Firmware updates can address bugs that cause connection issues.
I hope this helps.
