My printer will randomly go offline and I have no idea how to getr it back online. I've shut it down (total unplug), checked wi-fi is the same, cleared current jobs, restarted computer

Offline Condition

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

And...

  • Change the connection type to TCP/IP
  • Assign a manual / static IP address to the printer on both printer and router
  • Check that your Firewall and / or Security Software are not blocking critical parts of the installation
  • Make sure all Alerts and Notifications are switched on - this is important to catch any messages that might be issued by the printer software installation process.
  • Make sure router is updated with the latest firmware

Dual Band Network

If you are running a Dual Band Network (for example,

If your router supports it,

Create a separate SSID named network for each frequency (5GHz and 2.4GHz).

and

Connect the printer to the SSID network on the frequency / band you want it to use.

Reminder Some Printers only support connections using 2.4GHz.

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster
