HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My printer keeps going offline or asleep. HP Smart says it is ready but it will not print. When I run diagnostics and try a test print I get a pop up saying it is offline and no print.

I have tried all the suggestions I received from Alden4 10 days ago without success.

I have also tried hiding the printer, re-starting my computer and reconnecting the printer without success.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

I am now seriously considering buying a new printer.

Hi @Simpkin2,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 6020e All-in-One Printer keeps going offline or won’t print despite showing as "ready" in HP Smart, here are additional steps you can try to resolve the issue before considering replacing the printer:

1. Check Default Printer Setting

  • Ensure your HP ENVY 6020e is set as the default printer:
    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Find your printer, click on it, and select Manage.
    3. Click Set as Default.

2. Disable SNMP on the Printer Port

  • SNMP settings can cause printers to appear offline:
    1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
    3. Go to the Ports tab, find the port for your printer, and click Configure Port.
    4. Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled and click OK.

3. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Sometimes, driver corruption can cause connection issues:
    1. Uninstall the printer via Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2. Restart your PC.
    3. Reinstall the printer using HP Smart or download the driver directly from HP Support.

4. Assign a Static IP Address

Dynamic IP changes can disrupt the connection. Assign a static IP to your printer:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report from the printer's control panel.
  2. Access your router settings (via its IP in a browser).
  3. Reserve the printer's IP in the DHCP Reservation section.
  4. Add the printer using the static IP:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
    • Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
    • Enter the static IP.

5. Enable the Printer to Stay Awake

Some printers go into deep sleep mode and become unresponsive:

  1. Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Enter the printer's IP in a browser.
  2. Navigate to Power Management or Preferences.
  3. Disable or adjust Sleep Mode to remain active longer.

6. Check Network Stability

  • Ensure a strong WiFi signal where your printer is located.
  • Connect your printer to the router via Ethernet or WiFi Direct as a test.

7. Reset Printer Settings

Resetting the printer to factory defaults might help:

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  2. Reconfigure the printer on the network using HP Smart.

8. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated firmware can cause issues:

  1. Download and install the latest firmware via HP Smart or directly from HP Support.
