Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your HP printer frequently goes offline, requiring you to remove and re-add it to regain functionality, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
Ensure Proper Connection:
- Verify that the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network or via USB. Check all cables and connections for any faults.
- Ensure your printer and computer are on the same network if connected wirelessly.
Set as Default Printer:
- Go to Windows Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Locate your HP printer in the list, click on it, and select "Manage."
- Click on "Set as default" to ensure your computer sends print jobs to the correct device.
Check Printer Status:
- Make sure there are no error messages on the printer's display panel.
- Ensure there is paper in the tray and ink or toner in the cartridges.
Disable Printer Offline Mode:
- Open the Control Panel and go to "Devices and Printers."
- Right-click on your printer and ensure "Use Printer Offline" is not checked.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit HP's official support site to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
Restart Printer Spooling:
- Press Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the Services window, scroll down to "Print Spooler" service, right-click, and select "Restart."
Reinstall Printer Software:
- If the issue persists, uninstall the current printer software and reinstall it using the latest version from HP's website.
Check IP Address:
- If using the printer wirelessly, check that the printer's IP address hasn't changed. You can set a static IP address in your printer settings to avoid future disconnects.
Firewall and Antivirus:
- Ensure any firewall or antivirus software installed on your computer is not blocking your printer's connection.
Firmware Update:
- Check for any firmware updates for your printer that might resolve connectivity issues.
Following these steps should help stabilize your printer's connectivity and reduce instances of it showing as offline.
