Microsoft Windows 11

All of  sudden the printer stopped printing per usual

The internet is working and the computers are working, but when a document is printed the delay between the printing command can be hours instead of seconds.  Sometimes unplugging and the plugging the printer back in will result in  lots of backed up printing, but only for that moment. Turning he printer on and off does nothing, only unplugging seems to have a benefit.

For example, in settings there are currently 24 jobs in the queue which are not being printed.

The printer is older. Is it something simple like reinstalling a driver or do I need anew printer?

Hi @jgbortz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's possible that the issue with your HP printer may be related to the printer driver, printer settings, or a communication problem between the printer and the computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the computer, either through a USB cable or a network connection.
  • If using a network connection, check if the printer has a stable connection to the network.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer and the computer.
  • Wait for a minute, then turn them back on. This can sometimes resolve communication issues.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your computer.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs.
  • Restart the print spooler service on your computer.

Update or Reinstall Printer Driver:

  • Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest printer driver for your specific printer model.
  • If you already have the latest driver, consider reinstalling it to ensure a clean installation.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Make sure there are no conflicting printer software or drivers installed on your computer.
  • Uninstall any unnecessary printer software and drivers.

Printer Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve performance issues.

Test with Another Device:

  • Try printing from another computer or device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to one device.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Ensure there are no paper jams, and the printer has enough paper and ink or toner.
  • Inspect the printer for any visible hardware issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. This can help eliminate any custom settings causing the problem

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
