@urbansun, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
If you're experiencing a printhead issue with your HP printer, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Reset the Printer
Sometimes a simple reset can clear printhead errors.
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
Check for Printhead Errors
If the error persists, identify the exact message (e.g., “Missing or Failed Printhead,” “Printhead Problem,” etc.). This helps determine the next steps.
Clean the Printhead
If your printer has a removable printhead, you can clean it manually:
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Lift the latch on the carriage and gently remove the printhead.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts.
- Reinsert the printhead and cartridges, then close the latch and door.
Important: Do not leave cartridges outside the printer for more than 30 minutes.
Use HP Smart App’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
If you have the HP Smart app installed:
- Open the app.
- Go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
