Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer successfully printed jobs from a wireless laptop.  Afterward however, it no longer printed anything from my PC.  I use a HP envy 7640 printer.  Per google, I empties the printer que of jobs, removed the printer from the PC, powered down the PC, and installed the printer onto the PC.  This unfortunately did not correct the problem.  I am unable to print work docs and emails.  Nothing seem to be communicating.

Hi @Linda6218,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Because the HP Envy 7640 successfully printed from a laptop but failed on the PC, this is likely a communication or IP address conflict within your network, rather than a physical printer fault. The printer may be "locked" to the laptop's connection, or the PC is trying to use an outdated port.

Here are the step-by-step solutions to fix this communication issue.

1. Hard Reset All Components (Crucial)

  1. Turn off the HP Envy 7640.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Shut down your PC.
  4. Restart your WiFi router (unplug for 30 seconds, then plug back in).
  5. Wait for the internet to come back, then plug in and turn on the printer.
  6. Turn on your PC and try to print.

2. Verify PC and Printer are on the same network.

  • Printer: On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon to ensure it shows a "Connected" status and has a valid IP address.
  • PC: Ensure your PC is connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network (SSID). If your router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, ensure they are on the same one.

3. Clear and Reset the Print Spooler (On PC)

The printer queue might be corrupted, even if it looks empty.

  1. On the PC, search for Services in the Windows search bar and open it.
  2. Locate Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
  3. Open File Explorer and navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
  4. Delete all files in this folder.
  5. Go back to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start

4. Create a New Printer Port (Fixes "Offline" Issue)

Since a reinstall did not work, the PC may be trying to use an old network address.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report from your printer (usually found in the Wireless/Settings menu) to find the printer's current IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.XX).
  2. On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click your HP Envy 7640, select Printer Properties, and go to the Ports tab.
  4. Click Add Port > Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port.
  5. Enter the IP address from the report and complete the wizard.

5. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. This tool automatically fixes driver conflicts and connection issues.

6. Alternative: Use USB

If wireless remains problematic, connect the printer directly to the PC using a USB cable to determine if the issue is solely with the Wi-Fi connection.

If the wireless light is flashing or purple, restore the Wi-Fi setup mode by going to the wireless menu on the printer and selecting Restore Network Settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

I'm an HP Employee.
