Hi @Kennedy55
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining the issue — it’s definitely inconvenient when a printer goes offline after sleep and needs a full reboot to function again.
Here are some steps you can follow to help prevent this from happening:
1. Adjust Sleep and Auto-Off Settings
- Open the HP Smart app and go to your printer’s Advanced Settings.
- Navigate to System > Energy Settings.
- Increase the sleep timer or disable auto-off features to keep the printer awake longer.
- Apply changes and restart the printer to confirm the settings are saved.
2. Assign a Static IP Address
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a browser.
- Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration and set a Manual IP.
- This helps maintain a consistent connection and prevents the printer from going offline due to IP changes.
For help locating the IP address, check the printer’s Network Configuration Page from the control panel.
3. Disable IPv6 (if not in use)
- In the EWS, go to Network > Advanced Settings and disable IPv6.
- This can reduce connectivity conflicts, especially in mixed network environments.
4. Update Firmware
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page and enter your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
5. Check Router Settings
- Ensure your router’s firmware is up to date.
- If available, enable Always-On USB or Wake-on-LAN features to maintain connectivity with idle devices.
6. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)
- In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.
Let me know whether you're using USB or Wi-Fi, and I can tailor the steps further.
