I'm at a loss. If my HP M281fdw sits idle for more than about 5 minutes, it will not print. It's connected to the network, I've run all the wireless/network tests. I've deleted the printer and re-installed with new drivers. I've reset the printer. I'm running Mac OS Sonoma 14, the printer says "idle". It will send the info to the printer, but never actually connects. It's incredibly frustrating. I work from home and spend HOURS a day trying to figure out why it won't print. Every once in a while I can run a network summary and then magically it prints-but that hasn't worked for a few days. I'm stumped. Please help!

Hi @HRiggins,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration. It sounds like you've already tried many troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.
- Check Network Settings: Ensure that your printer is connected to the correct network and that the network settings are configured properly. You may want to assign a static IP address to the printer to ensure consistent connectivity.
- Firewall and Security Software: Sometimes, firewall or security software on your computer or network can block communication with the printer. Make sure that your firewall settings allow communication with the printer.
- Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
- Printer Queue: Check the printer queue on your computer to see if there are any stuck print jobs. Clearing the print queue and restarting the print spooler service may help.
- Energy Saving Settings: Some printers have energy-saving settings that can cause them to go into a sleep mode after a period of inactivity. Check the printer's settings menu to see if there are any options related to power-saving modes, and adjust them if necessary.
- Router Settings: If your printer is connected wirelessly, check your router settings to ensure that it's not blocking communication with the printer. You may need to adjust the router's firewall settings or enable features like UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) to allow devices on your network to communicate with each other.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
