My printer is suddenly having issues printing from my HP Victus gaming laptop but prints fine from a room mate's Mac.
Recently says "printer is in error" status when I attempt to print.
I turned off then on my Avast Ant-Virus and it printed but I tried doing this again and it doesn't work.
Earlier, it would say printer offline when it was online and my roomate printed from his MAC.
I did all the basic and suggested trouble shooting steps of unplugging router, plugging back in, updated to latest printer driver, turned printer on/off, turned PC on/off.
The printer is out of warranty and not old. My HP laptop is from 2023.
Would appreciate any and all help from the HP community.

@Huey-PackTurd, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Error State!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Given the Hewlett-Packard Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is working well with your roommate's Mac, it seems like there might be a communication issue between the printer and your HP Victus gaming laptop. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem:
Restart Your Printer and Laptop:
- Completely power off both devices and turn them back on to reset any temporary errors.
Check for Windows Update:
- Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is up-to-date, as updates may contain necessary drivers or fixes.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to HP's official website and download the latest printer drivers for your model. Uninstall the existing drivers and reinstall them with the updated versions.
Check Printer Settings:
- Open Settings on your Windows laptop.
- Go to Devices > Printers & scanners. Make sure your HP printer is set as the default device.
Disable Avast Antivirus Temporarily:
- Given your mention of potential Avast interference previously, try temporarily disabling Avast Antivirus, or add the printer to its exceptions list to prevent any blocks.
Network Connection:
- Verify that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same network. Use the printer’s network settings menu to check connectivity, and ensure your laptop is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
Firewall Settings:
- Ensure any firewall settings on your device or in Avast Antivirus aren't blocking printer communications. You may need to add exceptions for your printer's IP address.
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- HP offers a free tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Install and run this program to automatically diagnose and resolve issues.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
