My printer has always connected to our WiFi but all of a sudden says “an ethernet cable has not been detected” and the option to connect to wireless network is no longer there. I’ve tried a factory reset but no change. Any options?

Hi @Wrwaite

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your printer is stuck in Ethernet mode and unable to switch back to Wi-Fi.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Network Settings

  • Check the Printer's Network Mode:
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > Network Settings.
    • Ensure the printer is set to Wireless Mode instead of Ethernet.
  • If the option for wireless mode is missing, proceed to the next steps.

2. Restore Network Settings

  • Steps:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Settings.
    2. This will reset all network configurations, including Ethernet and Wi-Fi settings.
    3. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

3. Reconfigure Wi-Fi

  • Steps:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
    3. Ensure you enter the correct SSID and password.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Steps:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and check for firmware updates for your printer model.
    2. Download and install the updates to ensure compatibility and improved performance.

5. Check Router Settings

  • Steps:
    1. Log in to your router settings (usually accessible via a web browser).
    2. Ensure the router's firmware is up to date.
    3. Disable any features like MAC address filtering or firewall settings that might block the printer.
