My HP LaserJet MFP M29w printer is showing that it is offline. I have a Mac and am running MAC OS Sequoia. I also have the newest Iphone that is up to date. All of my software is up to date.
My husband recently asked our internet service to reset the internet, and I am wondering if that changed something? Let me list the things I have tried...
- I have restarted, turned off, and back on both my computer and the printer.
- I have removed the printer from my computer and tried to re-add it (now it doesn't even show up to try to add it)
- I have tried connecting it via USB cable (this works, but I need it to be wireless)
- I have tried printing out the network test report and looking for the IP address. There is no IP address listed anywhere. Not on my printer's printout. (there is no menu screen), not on my computer, not when I go through Terminal on my computer, etc. I have literally tried every way to try and find the IP address. I even typed in the http://192.168.1.1 to a web browser and nothing loads.
- I have tried to add the printer in the HP smart app. It can't be found.
How do I get my printer to reconnect with my computer and my phone if neither device can even find the printer? How can I get my printer to connect to the wifi? How do I find the IP address so I can just manually override it all and add it that way? I have been googling and trying to figure this out for several hours with no luck. Please help!
Also, does HP not have a technical support? I cannot find a phone number to call at all. Ive looked up the owners manual for my printer and it was zero help. I need my printer to connect wireless to my computer and phone!

Hi @LW90, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP LaserJet MFP M29w printer lost connection after an internet reset and isn’t showing an IP address, it likely dropped from the Wi-Fi network. Here’s how to reconnect it:
Step 1: Reset Printer’s Network Settings
- Restore network settings to default:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless button while turning the printer back on.
- Keep holding the button until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
This will reset the Wi-Fi settings and allow you to set up the printer again.
Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
- On your Mac or iPhone, open HP Smart App (download from the App Store if not installed).
- Tap Set up a new printer.
- If your printer doesn’t appear, tap Add Printer and select Set Up a New Printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi. Make sure:
- Your Mac/iPhone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Your Wi-Fi router supports 2.4GHz (the printer does not support 5GHz).
- You enter the correct Wi-Fi password during setup.
Step 3: Check for the Printer’s IP Address
If setup completes but the printer still appears offline:
- Print a Network Configuration Page:
- Turn the printer off and on again.
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons for a few seconds until a report prints.
- Look for the IP Address on the printout.
If there’s still no IP address:
- Restart your router and printer.
- Ensure your router’s DHCP is enabled (your ISP can confirm this).
Step 4: Manually Add the Printer to Mac
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
- Select the IP tab and enter the printer’s IP address (from the network report).
- Choose HP LaserJet MFP M29w as the driver and add it.
Step 5: Update Printer Firmware
If the printer connects via USB but not Wi-Fi, update its firmware:
- Go to HP support website and download the latest firmware for LaserJet MFP M29w.
- Install via USB before trying Wi-Fi again.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
