Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

I am trying to scan some documents and would like to scan from my laptop but my Deskjet 2800e printer connects perfectly to my phone (HP app) and tablet (HP app), but on the laptop (HP Smart App) it won't pick up the printer and keeps showing it as remote.

I have tried restarting everything and re-downloading the app. All devices are connected to the same WiFi connection, no hotspot or VPN is connected.

Hi @omelettez,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 2800e shows as “remote” in HP Smart on your laptop, even though it connects fine on your phone and tablet. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Verify the network connection on your laptop
Make sure your laptop is connected to the same 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network as the printer.
Avoid VPNs, hotspots, or guest networks that can block local device discovery.

Check Windows firewall or antivirus settings
Firewalls or security software can block HP Smart from detecting local network printers.
Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus and see if the printer appears as local.

Remove and re-add the printer in HP Smart
Open HP Smart, remove the DeskJet 2800e from your devices, then click Add Printer.
Follow the prompts to search for it on the local network.

Enable network discovery in Windows
Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Advanced sharing settings.
Turn on Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing for your network profile.

Check the printer’s network status
Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer to confirm it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi and has a valid IP address.

Use the IP address to add the printer manually
In HP Smart, choose Add Printer → Add by IP address, and enter the printer’s IP from the test report.
This bypasses automatic discovery and can fix “remote” detection issues.

Restart the HP services
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and ensure HP Network Devices Support and HP Smart Services are running.
Restart them if needed.

I hope this helps.
