Hi @Th3Punish3r ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your printer shows a "not connected" error and asks you to turn it on even though it is already on, this issue could be due to several reasons, such as connection issues, software glitches, or driver problems. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
1. Check Power and Connections
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Ensure Proper Connections:
- If you are using a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.
- If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- For Ethernet connections, ensure the cable is properly connected and the network is functioning.
2. Restart Your Computer and Printer
- Sometimes a simple restart of both the computer and the printer can resolve connectivity issues.
3. Check Printer Status and Network Settings
Printer Control Panel:
- Check the printer’s control panel to ensure it shows as connected to the network.Print a network configuration page from the printer's settings to confirm network connectivity.
HP Smart App/Printer Software:
- Open the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer.Ensure the printer is listed and shows as online.
- If it shows as offline, try reconnecting it through the app's network setup options.
4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
Update Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model.Download the latest drivers and software for your printer.
- Install the updated drivers and restart your computer.
Reinstall Drivers:
- Uninstall the existing printer drivers from your computer.
- On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Remove device.
- On macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the - button to remove it.
- Restart your computer.Download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
5. Reset Network Settings on Printer
- If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, resetting the network settings can help.
- On the printer, navigate to the network settings menu.Choose the option to reset or restore network settings.
- Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network following the setup instructions.
6. Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the connection between your computer and printer.
- Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus software to see if it resolves the issue.Ensure your firewall settings allow the printer software and HP Smart app to communicate over the network.
7. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free tool provided by HP to diagnose and fix printing and scanning issues.
- Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
