My HP Office Jet 3830 will not find my router.  It has worked perfectly for the last 3-4 years, now all the sudden it can't find my router.  I've reset the router. I've reset the printer settings.  Refreshed.  I can't think of anything else to do or what could be causing it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @AliciaW1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Office Jet 3830  Printer will not connect to the router but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Check Printer and Router Proximity

Ensure that the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router. If the printer is too far away, it may not detect the network.

2. Restart Devices

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart the Router: Power off the router, wait for a minute, then power it back on.

3. Check Wi-Fi Settings

  • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is operational and other devices can connect to it.
  • Verify that the SSID (network name) is visible and not hidden.

4. Printer Network Settings

Reset the printer's network settings:

  1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.

5. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

Use the printer's control panel to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network:

  1. Go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

6. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure that both the printer and router firmware are up to date:

  • For the printer, you can check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app or HP's website.
  • For the router, refer to the router's manual or manufacturer's website for firmware update instructions.

7. Check for Interference

Ensure there are no physical or electronic interferences between the printer and the router, such as:

  • Walls or large objects
  • Electronic devices that might interfere with the Wi-Fi signal (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones)

8. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure that the router is set to a compatible frequency band. HP OfficeJet 3830 supports 2.4 GHz but not 5 GHz, so ensure your network is on the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Verify that MAC address filtering is not enabled on the router, or if it is, ensure that the printer’s MAC address is allowed.

9. Manually Add Printer IP Address

If the printer still doesn't find the router, try assigning a static IP address:

  1. On the printer, print a network configuration page from the network settings menu.
  2. Note the IP address.
  3. On your computer, open the web browser and type in the printer's IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  4. Navigate to the Network or Wireless settings and manually configure the IP address settings.

10. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Remove the HP OfficeJet 3830.
  3. Download the latest driver and software from the HP Support website.
  4. Install the downloaded software and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
