Our Deskjet 4155e will not connect to our new router. The printer does not have a touchscreen. We have tried holding the wireless icon for 3 seconds and then the wfn on the router for 5 seconds,  tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer to our computer, and many other methods suggested online. Still won't connect. Please help!

Hi @Jenna7star,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer's connectivity!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are troubleshooting steps to connect your HP DeskJet 4155e to your new router:

Use HP Smart App (Recommended)

Since your printer does not have a touchscreen, use the HP Smart app to connect it to Wi-Fi:

  1. Download HP Smart:
  2. Reset Network Settings on the printer:
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button (📶) and the Cancel button (X) together for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks.
  3. Open HP Smart on your phone/computer.
  4. Click “Add a Printer” → Select Set up a new printer.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to connect it to Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

(Only works if your router supports WPS)

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button (📶) on your printer for 3–5 seconds until it blinks.
  2. Press the WPS button on your router and hold for 5 seconds.
  3. Wait for the Wi-Fi light to stop blinking (this can take up to 2 minutes).
  4. Try printing a wireless test page to confirm the connection.

Manual Connection via PC

  1. Connect your printer to your PC via USB cable.
  2. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from here and run it.
  3. Select “Fix Printing” → It will detect connection issues and guide you through Wi-Fi setup.

Check Router Settings

  • Ensure 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is enabled (DeskJet 4155e does not support 5GHz networks).
  • Disable MAC Address Filtering on the router.
  • Try changing your Wi-Fi password to something simple (temporarily) and reconnecting.

Factory Reset Printer (If nothing works)

  1. Turn OFF the printer.
  2. Press & hold the Wi-Fi button (📶) + Power button together for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the buttons and turn the printer back on.
  4. Try setting it up again using HP Smart.
