@As1173,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 4100e series printer is not connecting to WiFi and showing Error -3 (incorrect password) despite entering the correct credentials, try these steps.

Restart Everything

  • Restart your router: Unplug it for 10-15 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Restart your printer: Turn it off, unplug for 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer/phone (if using HP Smart app for setup).

Use the Correct WiFi Network & Password

  • Ensure you're connecting to the 2.4GHz WiFi band (many HP printers don't support 5GHz).
  • Re-enter the WiFi password carefully, ensuring:
    • No extra spaces
    • Correct capitalization
    • No special characters that the printer might not recognize

Factory Reset the Printer & Reconnect

Reset WiFi Settings:

  1. Press and hold the WiFi button (or WiFi + Cancel button) for 5-10 seconds until the WiFi light blinks.
  2. Wait for the light to blink continuously, meaning it's in setup mode.

Reconnect Using HP Smart App:

  1. Open the HP Smart app (on phone or PC).
  2. Select Set Up a New Printer → Follow on-screen instructions.
  3. If the app asks for WiFi, manually type the password instead of copying/pasting.

Manually Connect Printer to WiFi (Alternate Method)

If HP Smart isn't working:

  1. Press the Information (i) button on the printer to print a Network Configuration page.
  2. Find the printer’s WiFi Direct name (e.g., HP-Setup-4100).
  3. On your phone/computer, connect to this network.
  4. Open a browser and go to 192.168.223.1 (printer's built-in web page).
  5. Find Wireless Settings → Enter your WiFi credentials.

Check Router Settings

  • If the issue persists, check if MAC Address Filtering is enabled on your router and disable it temporarily.
  • Ensure the router supports WPA2 security (some older routers may cause connection issues).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
