Hi there @Housetohome, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

It appears that the HP Smart app is unable to detect the printer during setup, likely because the printer is not connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the mobile device or PC.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help the customer reconnect their HP printer and make it show up in the HP Smart app:

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This ensures the printer is ready for a fresh Wi-Fi setup.

  • For most HP printers with a touchscreen:
    • Go to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Settings.
  • For button-only printers (like HP DeskJet 2700/4100 series):
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Use HP Smart or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS):

Using HP Smart App:

  1. Open the app and tap “+” to add a new printer.
  2. Follow the on-screen steps to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
  3. Make sure your phone or PC is on the same Wi-Fi network.

Using WPS (if your router supports it):

  1. Press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until it starts blinking.
  3. Wait for the connection to complete.

Re-add the Printer in HP Smart

Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi:

  1. Open HP Smart. HP Smart
  2. Tap “+” or “Add Printer”.
  3. Select your printer from the list.

Check Firewall or VPN Settings

If you're on a PC and still can't find the printer:

  • Disable any VPN or firewall temporarily.
  • Ensure network discovery is enabled in Windows.
