Recently upgraded broadband, new hub was provided which has both 2.5/5GHZ bands.

After day unsuccessfully trying connect did some research only find printer is 2.5 GHZ compatible.

Any suggestions how connect printer to hub.

Hi @Allre001,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for the additional details. I rechecked the specifications and HP's troubleshooting guidance for the HP DeskJet 2820e, and I would clarify one point from my earlier response.

The printer does support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but it does not support 5 GHz. HP specifically states that wireless operation for the DeskJet 2800e series is compatible with 2.4 GHz only

Also, there is no indication that the printer must be connected directly to the broadband hub itself. The important requirement is that the printer has access to a compatible 2.4 GHz wireless network. If the new broadband hub provides that 2.4 GHz network, the printer should be able to connect to it.

Since you have just changed broadband equipment, I would check the following before changing anything else:

  • What is the make and exact model of the new broadband hub/router?
  • Does it broadcast separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi names, or do both bands use the same SSID?
  • Is the 2.4 GHz network enabled
  • Approximately how far is the printer from the hub, and are there walls/floors between them?
  • Is your Windows 11 computer connected to the same network?
  • When you attempt setup, does the HP app see the printer but fail to connect, or does it not find the printer at all?
  • What does the wireless light on the printer do during the setup attempt?

If the hub combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one Wi-Fi name, HP recommends making sure the 2.4 GHz network is available and, where possible, using separate SSIDs for the two bands.

Try this first
Put the printer back into Wi-Fi setup mode by pressing and holding the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for about 5 seconds. Then use the HP app on the Windows 11 PC to add the printer and connect it to the 2.4 GHz network. HP provides the HP app as the recommended setup method for this printer series.

If the hub does not provide a usable 2.4 GHz network, HP recommends contacting the Internet Service Provider to enable it or confirm whether the hub supports 2.4 GHz.

Take care and have an amazing day!
