Hello,
None of the suggested topics are quite the same as mine it seems.
I use a 1yo desktop Mac running the latest OS 11.2.1 Big Sur.
I use an A3 printer and had a Brother that was losing quality. I have a new OfficeJet Pro 7740 series and I am trying to use it wirelessly, rather than using either type of cable connection.
The computer and printer sit alongside each other on my desk, and my computer is connected wirelessly to our home internet which is a bigpond account using the NBN.
Our house is old and has very solid double and triple brick walls and the modem is at the other side of the house so we use a router to boost the signal. The router is connected via am ethernet cable below the floor and also sits on my desktop.
I know I could almost certainly solve the problem 'instantly' if I were to purchase a new cable and install it, but I was hoping the wireless would work and then also work for other members of the household who use both Mac and PC laptops.
With such new hardware, I would have thought that there would be little 'buffering' when sending a job to the printer, but alas, there is most often a 10 minute wait for the printer to be found and the job commence.
If I send a number of jobs at once it will print all of them, but even with a small delay between sending jobs, there is the long delay.
Yesterday I spent hours on the hp website and the virtual assistant wasn't working and I could find an answer, but I finally got a job number and use number and spent nearly 2 hours on the phone to a support person. Basically all we did was delete the printer from my computer and re-install everything but alas there is no improvement.
Any other suggestions are welcome. Apologies if this is too long a post.
Cheers,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
To isolate the issue, please perform a ping test and share the results-
-
Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
-
On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
-
Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
-
Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost.
Ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:
