Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I'm trying to print from my new iPad with HP Envy 4520 Printer. Both printer and iPad are connected to the same network. Sometimes it works, meaning that I can use the "print" button from the app in the iPad to print, but very often the "print" button is grey instead of blue and I cannot print despite the fact that I see the printer listed in the options for printing and identified as HP ENVY 4520 series [A251A5]. I went back to the control panel of the printer and used the Wireless Setup Wizard to restore the Network and password and it worked. When I tried again 10 min later, I had the same issue, i.e. the print button is grey and I'm not able to print. Is it a connectivity issue with the printer or is it something related to setup of the iPad? On my iPad I see DIRECT-A5-HP ENVY 4520 series in my "other networks". Should I use this network to print from my iPad?

Thank you.

@LPerusse, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you're unable to print from iPad, this could be an issue with the application used to print or connectivity.

If the mobile device has cellular data enabled, disable it and try printing.

Also, check for any updates on mobile devices. Restart the mobile device and the printer > print.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

You may also try the HP Smart App, here is the document HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your answer. For a reason that I don't really understand printing from iPad is now working. If the problem occurs again, I will try the options provided in your email.
