HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

For a couple of weeks it would not print and message on pc just said printer in error status. Printer showed no error and no jobs received. Uninstalled printer and drivers and reinstalled several times- no errors, but would not print. Also tried reinstalling in HP Smart, still same problem. Today, ran HP Print doctor that found unspecified errors and wanted to reboot computer. Rebooted and now is receiving print jobs, but just printing gibberish. Test print page kept going 20+ pages complete gibberish. Run print doctor now and troubleshooter and finds no problems. Please help!

Hi @AEP1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • When you make a copy does it print gibberish?
  • What application are you using on the PC to print?
  • How is the printer connected to your PC?

While you respond to that, please try the below steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1:Perform a power reset on the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP Recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Step 2: Update the printer firmware & Perform a Windows Update

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
  • Windows Update : Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update , and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
