Mac running Sequoia 15.5.

Was printing fine on Officejet J4680 .

Got a new Mac still running 15.5.

It finds the printer fine and lets me print, with Mac's Print Center showing the job going through to the printer.

But the printer just sits there, no reaction. Zero.

Have tried HP "Smart" app etc, printer is visible and active there as it is in the OS.

Any help much appreciated! Thanks.

Hi @sparrowsfall,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed description. Since your Officejet J4680 was working fine on your previous Mac and is now not responding on your new Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.5, even though the print job appears to go through, here are a few steps to try and resolve the issue.

Step 1: Reset the Printing System

This clears out any misconfigured printer settings.

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose “Reset printing system…”.
  3. Re-add the Officejet J4680.

Step 2: Use AirPrint or Generic Driver

HP may not provide updated drivers for older printers like the J4680 on newer macOS versions.

  1. When adding the printer, click “Use” and select:
    • AirPrint (preferred if available)
    • Or Generic PostScript Printer

Avoid using the HP Smart app for this model—it’s not fully compatible with older printers.

Step 3: Remove HP Smart App (Optional)

Sometimes HP Smart interferes with older printer models.

  • Uninstall HP Smart from Applications.
  • Restart your Mac and try printing again.

Step 4: Check for HP Printer Drivers via Apple

  1. Visit: HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
  2. Download and install the latest HP Printer Drivers for macOS (if available).
  3. Re-add the printer using System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

Step 5: Try USB Connection (if using Wi-Fi)

If you're using Wi-Fi, try connecting the printer via USB to rule out network issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
