Hi @Bostonworc,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 3830 is having issues with intermittent wireless printing, and your phone is indicating the printer is blocked.

To assist you better:

  • Since when are you facing this issue
  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
  • Have you made any changes on your printer post that this issue raised and have you observed any light blinking on the display and error code?

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check Printer and Wi-Fi Connection

  • Restart Printer & Router: Turn off both the printer and the Wi-Fi router. Wait about 30 seconds, then turn them back on. Ensure both are properly connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength: Make sure the printer is within a good range of your Wi-Fi router (ideally no more than 10-15 feet away). Poor signal strength can cause connection issues.

2. Check the Printer's Status

  • Ensure the printer is not set to Offline or Paused mode.
    • On your phone, open the printer settings via the HP Smart app or your phone's Bluetooth/wireless settings.
    • Make sure the printer is online and not paused or in error status.

3. Reset Printing System

  • Restart the Printing System on your phone:
    • On iPhone or Android, you can remove and re-add the printer from the HP Smart app or the Wi-Fi settings menu.
    • Re-add the printer and try printing again.

4. Check for Firmware/Software Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Update Printer Firmware: Use the HP Smart app or go to your printer settings to check for any firmware updates.
  • Update HP Smart App: Ensure the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version on your phone.

5. Reinstall the Printer

  • If the issue persists, remove the printer from your phone’s Bluetooth/Wi-Fi devices list and re-add it using the HP Smart app.
    • Uninstall the printer from HP Smart: In the app, remove the printer.
    • Reinstall the printer: Go through the setup process again by adding the printer back.

6. Check the Printer Queue and Clear Block

  • Check for any blocked print jobs that may be stuck in the printer queue.
    • On your phone, check the HP Smart app for any pending jobs.
    • Clear any jobs that are stuck or showing an error.

If the problem persists after these steps, it might help to perform a factory reset on the printer and set it up from scratch.
