Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I recently got Spectrum Wi-Fi and have been unable to get my 9015e printer to connect to it. I have a MacBook Air running Sequoia 15.5, which wasn't listed as an option above.

(The printer has a 5 gHz option enabled. But my Spectrum app can also temporarily decrease the Wi-Fi frequency to 2.4 gHz, for 30 minutes at a time. )

I've tried turning off the printer for a few minutes. When I turn the printer on again, whether I switch the frequency to  2.4 gHz or leave it at 5 gHz and go to Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer, it lists some other nearby networks, but not my own network whose router is right across the room. When I enter the name of my own Spectrum network on the printer (a time-consuming process), it says "Unable to find this network." I think one can restore the factory defaults by hitting "restore network settings," but when I tried that, it didn't help.

I notice that the printer has a "Direct Wireless" option, which looks like it identifies the printer as a 9010 rather than a 9015e. I would rather not have to switch networks every time I need to print or scan something, but at this point, I'm willing to try that. When switch my laptop to the Direct Wireless network associated with my printer, the box on my laptop asks for a WPA2 password. The password that I use for my regular wireless does not work. Neither does the Direct Wireless Password listed under Direct Wireless for the printer.

I(f I'm trying to reach my regular network, which I would prefer, I don't know whether having Direct Wireless turned on, and if it's on, having the connection method listed as automatic or manual, would interfere with that. I doubt it would make my regular network not show up in a list of nearby networks.)

Do you have any helpful suggestions as to how I can get my printer to "see" my wireless network, so I can print and scan things again? Thank you!

For general help for new router or printer please refer to this article in our printer database.

Click Spoiler if you have a new router and nothing else changed.

Spoiler
New ISP, same old printers, PCs and smartphones: Log into the modem or router and change the SSID (names) of each band so the names are different. Create a numeric password identical for each band to simplify login. If you must use alphanumeric characters then do not use any from this set: ilL1oO0D8B5S as they are easily mixed up depending on the font used. Be sure to run the application (if any) that finds the best channel for each band. Your ISP should be able to do all of this for you if you need help.

If you configure the new router with:

  • The same SSID (network name) as the old router
  • The same Wi-Fi password
  • The same security type (typically WPA2-Personal or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode)

Your printer may reconnect automatically. However, your PC may have an old IP address, but you can always tell the PC to find the printer, and it will obtain the new IP address.

The below is all know about your OfficeJet: 9015.  Hope I am not oversharing!

Watch the reset video or perform the steps. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.  Since your printer was working earlier there should be no need to install drivers plus most of the below is for Windows, not MacOS (sorry)

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two or more bands and all have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

Or simply use Wi-Fi direct (but read note below about Instant Ink).

If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. Disconnecting the USB cable may still leave the printer in the wired or Wi-Fi mode. Connecting an ethernet cable may still leave the printer in Wi-Fi mode. The Wi-Fi reset is used to put Wi-Fi printers into setup mode. Some resets are simple and others require a video to understand. Factory resets cannot be revealed in this forum. To do a factory reset of your printer, you must contact HP.

Wi-Fi reset instructions and videos (if any) are shown below. Generally you have 2 hours to connect your printer after performing the Wi-Fi reset. Note that a reset video may show a slightly different model than yours. Do not call any phone numbers revealed in any video or site.

Ideally, your Wi-Fi printer should connect to the modem or router. If your network has multiple boosters / repeaters, it is possible the printer may connect randomly to any of the units. The router needs to provide the same IP address on every connection. This rarely happens with random connects. An alternate Wi-Fi connection is Wi-Fi direct. Your laptop or smartphone prints directly to the printer and does not go through the router. Note that if you signed up for instant ink or internet printing your printer must also be online through the router. Do not call any phone number revealed in any video or site.

Wi-Fi Direct can be used to avoid configuring the router. Watch this: 9010
Wi-Fi Direct is explained on page 139 of the User Manual, this Wi-Fi setup avoids configuring the router.

You may need to select an operating system (OS) first. If windows 11 is missing then use 10. You can go as far back as Windows 7, 64bit to get missing drivers. After selecting the OS click the blue Open all button to view all downloads.

Full function printer drivers can be downloaded here: 901x

There can be problems if the modem/router has the same name (SSID) for both the 2.4 and the 5ghz band as explained here.

Contact your ISP and make sure the modem/router has different names for the 2.4 and the 5ghz bands if you wish to connect that way.

Thank you for your reply and for all the helpful resources. I'll try those things out and will let you know if I can get the printer to connect to my Wi-Fi.

One thing I find a bit confusing is the Wi-Fi frequency band. I was all prepared to temporarily change my Wi-Fi to 2.4 gHz so I could set my printer's Wi-Fi up to connect with my new router, but then I saw that a setting for 5 gHz is "on" on the printer itself. I realize that 5 gHz ls less good at going through walls and such, but the router now is in the same room as the printer. My router uses one name for both bands, but maybe I can get Spectrum to change that.

Anyway, I will check out the links and materials that you provided, which may help me better understand the frequency band issue. Thanks again!
