Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Envy 5660 hardwired with USB to a Windows 7 desktop. Also have a WIndows 10 laptop that I print from via Wifi.  But the laptop won't print unless the desktop is up and running. I used the "Direct" method of getting the driver installed on the Windows 10 laptop.  The laptop thinks the printer is offline if the desktop is in sleep mode. But the laptop will print fine via Wifi if the desktop is awake.

Any ideas why the laptop won't print unless the desktop is awake?

@kranky2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your laptop.

I believe that the printer is not directly connected to the printer.

On the laptop, select the printer's wifi direct network name to print.

Refer to this document for assistance - HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)

The default password is 12345678.

Note: There will be no internet connection on the laptop while using wifi-direct to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
