HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

My printer is now asking me for the proxy setting to connect to instant ink.  I have no idea what or where to locate the proxy setting.  Can someone help me with this?

Hi @nanajean72,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Configuring proxy settings on a printer can vary depending on your network setup and the specific printer model. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is asking for proxy settings to connect to HP Instant Ink, here are some general steps you can follow to locate and configure proxy settings:

Check the Printer's Display: Sometimes, the printer will display an option to configure proxy settings directly on its touchscreen display. If this is the case, you can navigate through the printer's menu options to locate and configure the proxy settings.

Web Interface: Many modern printers, including the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, have a web interface that allows you to configure advanced settings. To access the web interface:

a. Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

b. Find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer. This page will display the IP address.

c. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. Press Enter.

d. Log in to the printer's web interface using the administrator credentials. If you haven't set up a username and password for your printer, check the printer's manual or documentation for default login credentials.

e. Once logged in, navigate to the network or connectivity settings, and look for an option related to proxy settings.

HP Smart App: If you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or mobile device, you may be able to configure proxy settings through the app. Open the app, select your printer, and check if there are any options for configuring network or proxy settings.

Network Administrator: If you're in a business or enterprise environment, it's possible that your network administrator manages proxy settings for devices on the network. In such cases, you may need to contact your IT department for assistance with proxy configuration.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
