I have virtually the same problem with my Envy 5020
My 5020 was printing, I hadn't printed on it for a while as I only print a few pages per month on this printer. ( I am on the free 15 pages a month package )
The scanner still scans ok but the printer lists as "driver is not available"
I do all the usual HP and/or Microsoft updates and this is on an ENVY 360 windows 10 home network.
I have run the HP doctor program
uninstalled /reinstalled the printer/full driver software etc as a result
Tried it manually on direct print connect - HPsmart - sees the printer, allows the second stage of the install, once I put the password from the printer front panel. But immediately after successful installation, the Printer relists as driver is unvailable - shows ink status everything is normal except "printer not fully installed"
I have recently upgraded our TV broadband router (5 & 2.4Ghz) but I changed the password and SSID to the same as the previous model, so that was pretty seamless AND I can still print wirelessly to the C4380 and Officejet 8600!

Hi @doctorsbox,
I'd like to help with the printer connectivity issue.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
- Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
- If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
- If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
- If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
Set a manual IP-
To set a manual IP and try the steps below -
--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP
--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply
--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply
--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min
Connect the printer to TCP/IP port
--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
a. Click Start/Devices and Printers. Right-click on your HP Printer. Select Printer Properties. Select the Ports tab at the top.
b. Select Add Port. Select Standard TCP/IP Port. Select New Port.
c. Follow the Add Port Wizard. Under Printer Name or IP Address, . Example: 192.168.1.15. The IP address will be copied under Port Name.
d. Select Next and Finish the Wizard.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi thanks for your help.
removed the " an unknown device listed in device manager, could not uninstall the software device listed-HPCB7109 (HP ENVY 5000 series) as it kept reappearing. In "apps and features " removed HP ENVY 5000 basic device software. Then -
Ran HP scan and print doctor it went through the whole process of installing the printer as it stated it wasn't installed properly. It still ended up as driver unavailable. I went on through your instructions and
I got to the point where I selected manual IP and had hit 'apply' ..it timed out said lost comms with printer so I re applied and it was successful. I could not find the section to Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS - under DNS Address Configuration it just had the manual default and secondary dns server 192.168.0.1 etc
. Looked through the other menu headings and found "run a test print" - it printed the test print! I will repeat that -
The HP ENVY 5020 printed the test print!
set sleep to 15minutes
Tried to Set the TCP port but there is not an entry for "devices and printers" just" printers and scanners "or "bluetooth and others "- in both you cannot right click on the devices listed anyway ( and driver listed as not available) . So I went into the old style device manager again and found listed under printers with the 8600 that the unkown device had re appeared - right clicked - initiated update the driver - it then gave me a window - WINDOWS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM INSTALLING THE DRIVERS FOR YOUR DEVICE - found the drivers but encountered a problem HP ENVY 5000 series PCL-3 - driver not signed or signed incorrectly check manufacturers website
Under software devices - are all my networked wifi devices TV/ Blueray / HP8600 etc etc ....and now ( where the was only one entry that I could not remove) there are 4 entries -
DIRECT -09-HP ENVY 5000 series
HP ENVEY 5000 series [CB7109]
