Common problems for Connectivity Issues

I'm having the same issue. I just changed ISP and the printer was still connected to the old network. I've reset the printer, but was unable to install it in the HP Smart app because of this issue. I installed the app on my phone and was able to set it up on the new WiFi network, so it's working at least. It's now on my device list on the laptop, but I'm still unable to add it to the HP Smart app on the laptop because of this error with location settings. The app and the laptop are already up to date, I've tried turning off HP Smart's location permissions, restarting the laptop and then running the setup again and enabling it, but the app still doesn't recognise the switch, so I can print but I can't use the app for the additional features.

This may be unrelated, but my laptop won't connect to my new 5GHz network, it will only connect to the 2.4GHz band. The network adapter in the laptop should support 5GHz, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Googling the problem seems to suggest it's a hardware fault and I need a new adapter, but that's not an option right now. Could the network issue be related to the location issue? I don't see how, but that's so often the way with these things!

Can anyone help resolve this issue?

Hi @SJM1995,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed explanation—you're dealing with a couple of overlapping issues, and I’ll help you sort them out step by step.

Issue 1: HP Smart App Not Recognising Location on Laptop

This is a known issue with HP Smart on Windows, especially after network changes. Here's how to fix it:

Fix HP Smart Location Permissions on Windows 11

  1. Enable Location Services Globally
    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security> Location.
    • Turn on Location services.
    • Scroll down and ensure HP Smart is allowed to access the location.

  2. Reset HP Smart App
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Find HP Smart, click the three dots > Advanced options.
    • Click Reset (this won’t remove your printer, but it resets app settings).

  3. Reinstall HP Smart
    • Uninstall HP Smart.
    • Restart your laptop.
    • Reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.

  4. Run HP Smart as Administrator
    • Right-click the HP Smart shortcut > Run as administrator.
    • This can help it detect system-level changes like location or network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Same issue for me.

I solved uninstalling HPSmart, and installing from Uptodown.

If you are installing from Windows Store you get this issue.

Download the installer from Uptodown or other Page, and install It.

Shared this as I see bad support from HP.

Big company, lot of People asking the same issue and no solution from their end, Amazing
